My One Request: A Poem

By Juli

You said you want to take a bike ride,
Underneath the sky so blue,
And I say, “That’s fine!
You can take your time!
Just take the kids with you.”

You said you have to use the bathroom,
To take a number two,
You say it might take ten minutes,
Go ahead, do your business!
Just take the kids with you.

You want to go check out a store,
Full of board games, old and new,
I say, “Have a great time,
just don’t spend a dime,
And take the kids with you.”

You said you want a boys night out,
With nachos and cold brew,
But if you make it at McDonald’s,
They might make you nachos?
And you can take the kids with you.

You say that you need some alone time,
And I totally get it, I do,
Take the time that you need,
Let your hair down, be freed!
Just take the kids with you.

You may think I’m cruel and heartless,
You’ll start a protest, call the news,
And that is your right,
So go fight the good fight,
Just take the kids with you.

You could go to the ends of the earth, my love,
You could sail the ocean blue,
Just pack their water wings,
And their sunhats, and things,
… and take the kids with you.
